Women With Migraines Are More Likely To Have Depression
Patients suffering from chronic headache, specifically migraine disorder, are in a greater number inclined to suffer from depression, feel worn-out, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical investigation published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
The clinical study involved 1900 patients who buy cymbalta online at headache clinics in three different countries. Of the people tested, 656 reported incidental headache (less than 15 headaches per month) and 343 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the people were diagnosed with migraines.
The medical trial found patients with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.
Among woman tested with severely disabling migraine, the clinical investigation found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.
“Painful physical symptoms will stir up or be a manifestation of major Manic Depression in people with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Depression can heighten pain perception,” said clinical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This connection between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”
Tietjen says clinical investigation are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.
“Careless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Atypical Depression complicates headache treatment and can rouse poorer consequence for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.
The clinical study was assistanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American man are affected by headache.
The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better woman care through education and medical study. A neurologist is a surgeon with specialized training in monitoring, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and frequent sclerosis.
